When I first came up with this idea I didn't realize how daunting of a task this was going to be. I already had in mind some "for sures" that would be on this list but then my memory went into overdrive and my list kept growing. I had to implement and Honorable Mention list just for this very reason. There were some videos that I felt just had to have some kind of recognition. But alas, I was able to narrow it down to ten.
For the most part (you're damn right I started this sentence with a preposition!) these are all videos from my youth. Back when MTV stilled played good music--for that matter back when they played music at all-- and it wasn't overrun with crap artists like Kanye West and The Black Eyed Peas. Yes, what MTV plays nowadays is crap and to think otherwise is to have no taste in music at all. Our idea of "music" in this century needs some serious re-evaluation.
So, without further ado here is my "list". All videos will be provided with a link if you want to watch them.
Honorable Mentions:
Foo Fighters- Everlong

The Top Ten
10) Bloodhound Gang- Bad Touch (Discovery Channel Song)
Lets get this list started like they do on the Discovery Channel! The boys from the Bloodhound Gang had me on the floor laughing the entire video with this one. By the way, did anyone else that had this CD notice that the CD itself was peach and around the hole it said insert tongue here? If you did and you happened to stick your tongue in the hole as instructed you would've realized that it looked like a boob as I did!

9) Korn- Freak On a Leash
This video definitely contains some kick ass animation from the creator of one of my favorite comic books growing up, Todd McFarlane. Last good video Korn made.

8) MC Hammer- U Can't Touch This
Parachute pants...nuff said! Kanye, take fucking notes.

7) Nirvana- In Bloom
Any video that shows Kurt Cobain in a suit and tie and glasses and then in a dress should be included on anybody's top ten list. Not to mention that this is just a kick ass song. Watch Dave Grohl in the background.

6) Gavin Rossdale- Glycerine
Not the original video for this song but I happen to like this one much better. This is from back when you actually looked forward to watching MTV's Spring Break. Don't lie fellas, you know when you watched Gavin Rossdale singing in the rain by himself it made you second guess your sexuality for a second!

5) Michael Jackson- Smooth Criminal
Growing up this was my absolute favorite Michael Jackson video, so it just felt right to start the Top Five with it. Michael does everything from catching a cue ball and crushing it with his hand to shooting a would be killer without even looking all while showcasing the BEST moves EVER period. You can try to replicate the best but you will always fail ( yes Usher and Justin Timberlake I'm talking to you! ). If there is only one video on this list that you watch please make it this one.

4) Nirvana- The Man Who Sold the World ( Unplugged )
This concert should go down as MTV's best Unplugged show ever. I was elated when they cut this song into a video. There's no theatrics or anything in this video but I still love it. It always brings a certain sadness to my soul watching this video knowing that we will never have the pleasure of watching Kurt Cobain perform live again except through old videos like this.

4) Foo Fighters- My Hero
No you're not seeing a typo, I had a tie for 4 because I could not leave this song off my list. I've always thought that a great song makes a great video. Such is the case here. This has, and always will be, my favorite Foo Fighters song and the video still gives me chills watching it. I felt it fitting to include it here since Dave Grohl wrote this song about Kurt Cobain.

3) Weezer- Buddy Holly
Just freaking great video directed by Spike Jonze. The whole premise of Weezer playing at Al's from Happy Days was just awesome. Who can honestly say that they didn't love watching the Fonz dance to this song??!! Please try the fish!

2) Michael Jackson- Thriller
I don't think any words or witty banter could describe the magnitude of this video and the impact that it had on Pop Culture. I think Dave Chappelle said it best when he said, "He made Thriller dog; Thriller." Nobody can deny that as a kid the end of this video, when his eyes turn, scared the absolute shit out of you! This sets the standard for videos even today. Mayme don't watch this, it has dancing zombies in it!

1) Beastie Boys- Sabotage
Now I know there are those of you who will say "How in the hell can can he put this video ahead of Thriller? He must be crazy!" My rebuttal to you is this; yes, I am crazy and this is my damn list and this is my ALL TIME favorite video. My whole reason for creating this list was because of this video. I heard the song on the radio the other day and I thought to myself, now this was a damn good video! And by George it was and still is! They don't make 'em like this anymore...

So that's it folks, my Top Ten ( or eleven ). Feel free to make your own top tens and leave them in my comment box with links if you can find them. Hope you enjoyed! Until next time, keep hope alive!
